Dr. Route's long-term interests have included the preparation of bulk single crystals of oxides and compound semiconductors for optical and electronic applications. Most recently, his major emphasis has been on materials characterization for the LIGO group, and on development of dielectric waveguides for the Laser Accelerator on a Chip program. The growth of single crystal fibers useful for a variety of diagnostic, survey and optical applications has also been of interest. Additional areas of direct experience include glasses, and polymeric and organic crystalline materials. Previous to this work, Dr. Route had extensive experience in the LPE growth of GaAs thin films, microwave acoustics and microwave electronics.
